SANGSAD BHABAN, June 7 (V7N) – The Jatiya Sangsad today adopted a condolence motion expressing profound shock at the death of 16 former ministers, state ministers, and members of parliament, as well as several noted personalities. Speaker Hafiz Uddin Ahmad, Bir Bikram, moved the motion, which was unanimously adopted after the observance of one minute of silence and a munajat. The 16 former dignitaries include former ministers Tofail Ahmed, Engineer Mosharraf Hossain, and Barrister Shafique Ahmed, along with three former state ministers and 10 former MPs.

The House also mourned the deaths of eminent educationalist Prof Dilara Hafiz (the Speaker's spouse), National Professor Sufia Ahmed, poet and journalist Helal Hafiz, cultural personality Sanjida Khatun, historian Badruddin Umar, and rape victim eight-year-old Ramisa Akter. Parliament also expressed grief over loss of lives in various accidents at home and abroad.

Earlier, the first budget (second) session of the current 13th parliament began at 3:00 pm. During the question-answer session, Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Iqbal Hassan Mahmood told parliament that the government has taken necessary measures to meet power demand despite a significant increase caused by ongoing summer heat. He said all major power plants have been kept ready for maximum generation through planned maintenance.

The minister stated that load-shedding is not required due to any shortage in electricity generation, though occasional power disruptions may occur because of emergency maintenance, adverse weather, or natural disasters. He confirmed there is currently no load-shedding in the Nawapara industrial zone or other major commercial centers in Khulna division, with 46 megawatts being supplied against the same demand.

The minister also said electricity was supplied according to demand during the irrigation season from December to May, helping farmers carry out agricultural activities without major disruption. The government remains committed to ensuring reliable power supply nationwide through improved fuel availability and efficient grid management. The sitting was later adjourned until 3 pm on June 8.
