Dhaka, Dec 10 (V7N) – Sarah Karim from Bangladesh has been selected as an astronaut candidate for Titans Space Industries, making her the first Bangladeshi to receive this opportunity for an international space mission. Once fully confirmed, she will become the country’s first female astronaut.
Sarah Karim shared her excitement on social media, stating, “I feel humbled and honored to have been selected as an astronaut candidate for Titans Space Industries for the 2026–2030 period. I am officially stepping onto the path to becoming an astronaut. Insha’Allah, if all goes well, I will carry the Bangladeshi flag into space, fulfilling a dream that began when I was nine years old watching Sunita Williams return from space with my father. That dream, which never left me, is now beginning to take shape.”
She revealed that her astronaut training will commence next year, with plans to prepare for a historic orbital mission aboard the Titans Genesis spacecraft around 2029 or 2030. The mission is expected to take place approximately 300 kilometers above Earth and will be led by NASA veteran Chief Astronaut Bill McArthur.
Sarah highlighted the symbolic importance of her achievement, saying, “This moment is not mine alone. It belongs to every Bangladeshi girl who quietly dreams, every child who looks up in awe, and every mother who carries the universe on her shoulders.”
She expressed heartfelt gratitude to her husband and everyone who supported her journey, including the Titans Space Industries team and Neil S. Lachman, for believing in her vision. “The honor of carrying Bangladesh’s flag into space is a childhood dream finally becoming reality. This is just the beginning,” she added.
This selection underscores Bangladesh’s growing presence in the global space community and marks a historic milestone for the country’s participation in international space exploration programs.
