Dhaka, Oct 01 (V7N) – A four-day holiday has begun today on the occasion of Durga Puja, prompting thousands of people to leave the capital to spend time with family or travel across the country. The holiday will run from Wednesday (Oct 1) to Saturday (Oct 4), including the weekly holiday.
Since Tuesday (Sept 30) night, Gabtoli, Sayedabad, and Mohakhali bus terminals have seen huge crowds of long-distance passengers. Long queues formed at ticket counters as travelers scrambled to secure seats.
Passengers said such a long continuous holiday rarely comes except during Eid. Many are heading to their village homes, while others are visiting relatives or planning trips to tourist destinations with their families.
Bus owners said additional buses have been arranged to cope with the heavy rush of holidaymakers.
