Pabna, Oct 26 (V7N) — Three people, including two school students, were killed and two others critically injured when a bamboo-loaded truck collided with a van carrying students in Bangabaria area of Gayeshpur Union, Pabna Sadar, on Sunday morning.
According to Md. Mostafizur Rahman, Officer-in-Charge of Madhpur Highway Police Station, the accident occurred around 7 a.m. on the Dhaka-Pabna Highway. The victims included Tasmiya Akter, a fourth-grade student of Pabna Collegiate School and College; Abu Toha, a fifth-grade student; and the van driver Akram Hossain.
Reports indicate that around 8–10 students were traveling to Pabna Cadet Collegiate School and College when the van collided head-on with the bamboo-loaded truck coming from Dhaka. Two students and the van driver were killed on the spot, while two pedestrians sustained serious injuries. Local residents immediately informed Madhpur Highway Police, who arrived at the scene to recover the bodies and seize the truck. Traffic on the highway was temporarily halted following the accident.
Officer Mostafizur Rahman confirmed that legal action is underway against those responsible. He said that the two injured pedestrians were at a nearby tea stall at the time of the collision and are receiving medical treatment. The tragic incident has left the local community in mourning.
Authorities have urged drivers and commuters to exercise extra caution on highways, particularly in areas with high traffic and heavy vehicles.
