Dhaka, Jul 08 (V7N)- Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman has alleged that the 11-party alliance was defeated in the 12th National Parliament election through a conspiracy and claimed that the interim government was also part of that process.
He made the remarks while addressing a seminar titled "The Spirit of the Mass Uprising, Implementation of the Referendum Verdict, and the Trial of the July Genocide and Crimes Against Humanity" held in the capital on Wednesday.
Speaking at the event, Dr. Shafiqur Rahman said his party would accept the election outcome but insisted that the "referendum verdict" must not be ignored.
"Even if we accept the election verdict, we will not allow the referendum verdict to be ignored. No fascism—old or new—will be accepted. There can be no compromise on the people's rights," he said.
The Jamaat chief also warned against what he described as attempts to undermine the significance of the July movement.
"If anyone dares to violate decency or disrespect July, it will not be tolerated," he added.
Also speaking at the seminar, National Citizen Party (NCP) Member Secretary Akhtar Hossain urged the government to implement the referendum verdict, saying it was necessary to avoid further unrest.
"If the government wants to prevent further bloodshed in the country, it should implement the referendum verdict," Akhtar Hossain said.
The government had not immediately responded to the allegations and demands made by the speakers at the seminar.
