Dhaka, Apr 13 (V7N) – Opposition leader and Dr. Shafiqur Rahman has said that the government will not be able to overcome the “July uprising” by taking a stance against it.
He made the remarks at a seminar titled “Government against the Referendum Verdict: A Country Facing Crisis” held at the Institution of Diploma Engineers Bangladesh (IDEB) in Kakrail, Dhaka, on Monday.
Dr. Shafiqur Rahman said, “If there is no July, we are not there; if there is July, we are there. If there is July, there is the government; if there is July, there is the opposition. If there is no July, there is nothing. The government will not be able to overcome the July uprising by taking a stand against it.”
He also warned that the ongoing movement involving 11 political parties demanding implementation of the referendum verdict would continue until success is achieved. He urged supporters to prepare for further political mobilization.
At the same event, Nahid Islam, Opposition Chief Whip and convener of the National Citizen Party (NCP), said that Parliament should be focusing on urgent national issues such as war-related concerns and public health challenges like measles. However, he noted that political debate is instead centered on the “July Charter,” referendums, and reform agendas, which he described as unfortunate for the country.
