Dhaka, Apr 09 (V7N) – Masudur Rahman, the Jamaat-designated candidate for the Sherpur-3 (Shribardi-Jhenaigati) constituency, announced a boycott of the ongoing by-election on Thursday, citing alleged irregularities.

Rahman claimed that the agent representing the candidate with the scale symbol was expelled from a polling center and that incidents of fake votes and public sealing occurred. He added that despite informing the presiding officers and police, no corrective action was taken.

“As a fair election is not possible under these circumstances, I am boycotting the election,” Rahman said at a press conference held at 3:00 pm.

Earlier in the day, Jamaat Secretary General Mia Golam Parwar also alleged various irregularities in the by-elections for both the Bogra-6 and Sherpur-3 constituencies during a press briefing at the party’s central office.

The Sherpur-3 constituency, which includes the upazilas of Shribardi and Jhenaigati, consists of 17 unions and one municipality. A total of 128 polling stations were set up for 413,377 registered voters. Of these, 28 centers were designated as “risky” and additional security measures were implemented.

Voting in this constituency had been postponed during the 13th National Parliament elections on February 12 due to the death of a candidate. The by-election is being held today to fill the vacant seat.
