Dhaka, Feb 15 (V7N) — Nasiruddin Patwari, candidate of the Jatiya Nagorik Party (NCP) in the Dhaka-8 constituency, has filed a formal complaint with the Bangladesh Election Commission (EC) alleging irregularities during the recent national election.
Petition Details
The petition, submitted to the Chief Election Commissioner on Monday, requests that the final results be announced only after a recount of votes and that the oath-taking ceremony for Dhaka-8 be postponed until the matter is resolved.
According to the petition, Mirza Abbas, candidate of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party, along with his leaders, workers, agents, and family members, allegedly engaged in vote rigging, influence peddling, withholding results, and counting of canceled votes. The petition further claims that at one point, both the Presiding Officer and the Returning Officer were involved in irregularities, resulting in the declaration of the Paddy Sheaf candidate as winner instead of Nasiruddin Patwari.
The petition specifies several polling centers where irregularities reportedly occurred and urges the Election Commission to take legal action in accordance with election rules.
Unofficial Results
In the unofficial results, BNP candidate Mirza Abbas won the Dhaka-8 seat with 59,366 votes, while Nasiruddin Patwari secured 54,127 votes.
The Election Commission has not yet commented on the petition, and it remains unclear when the recount or any review process will take place.
