Dhaka, Feb 09 (V7N)- Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman has said that one group has become desperate out of fear of losing the election and that all attempts to manipulate the polls will be resisted.

He made the remarks while addressing an election campaign rally in Mohammadpur, Dhaka, on Monday (February 9).

Referring to past political movements, Dr. Shafiqur Rahman said that during the July movement against injustice, internet services were shut down to conceal killings and wrongdoing. He alleged that the Election Commission (EC) is now following a similar path by banning cameras and mobile phones within 400 meters of polling stations.

“If the Election Commission does not withdraw this decision by this evening, a movement will be launched against those who are attempting to rig the election,” he warned.

The Jamaat Ameer reiterated that fear of defeat has driven certain groups to attempt election manipulation through covert means, but said such efforts would not succeed.

“All their misdeeds will be prevented,” he asserted.

Speaking about local issues, Dr. Shafiqur Rahman alleged that drug and arms trading are rampant in Mohammadpur. He said that if Jamaat comes to power, efforts will be made to bring misguided youths back onto the right path and establish peace and order in the area.

He also promised to form a people’s government if elected and said that the public has already seen the record of parties that are now “overly eager for power.”

Addressing government officials, the Jamaat Ameer warned that some bureaucrats and secretaries are still attempting to favor preferred candidates through partisan actions.

“If anyone engages in such activities now, they will not be forgiven,” he cautioned.
