Dhaka, Feb 08 (V7N)- Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman has said that February 12 will mark the implementation of the unfinished work of August 5, warning that history will not forgive those who betray the blood shed during the movement.
He made the remarks while addressing an election rally of the 11-party unity alliance at the DIT Project playground in Badda, Dhaka, on Sunday morning (February 8).
Dr. Shafiqur Rahman said the people of the country have now awakened and rejected what he termed “rotten politics.”
“The people have clearly said—they do not want to return to the old settlement. They want a new Bangladesh and the emergence of new politics,” he said.
Stating that Jamaat-e-Islami would not give false assurances, the Jamaat Ameer said, “With Allah as my witness, we will be the guardians of the lives, wealth and dignity of the people of Bangladesh. We will not be the owners of the country; we will be servants of the people.”
He further said that if Jamaat comes to power, elected representatives will be required to submit annual wealth statements of themselves and their family members to the nation.
Referring to corruption and irregularities, Dr. Shafiqur Rahman said the people would show a “red card” to corrupt individuals, extortionists, litigants, illegal occupiers and what he termed agents of hegemony.
Criticizing various welfare card initiatives, he said promises such as rice at Tk 10 per kg were misleading, and alleged that repeated card-based assurances were similarly ineffective.
“The people will show a red card to these fake cards on February 12, Insha Allah,” he added.
The Jamaat Ameer also said that if the party comes to power with public support, Nahid Islam will be made a minister.
“If the people’s verdict is in favor of a just Bangladesh, you will see Nahid Islam as a minister in that government,” he said.
