Sylhet, Feb 07 (V7N)- Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman has pledged to restart and expand flight routes from Sylhet if his party comes to power, noting that the previous direct flight to Manchester has been stopped.
He made the remarks while addressing an election rally of the district and metropolitan Jamaat-e-Islami at Alia Madrasa Ground in Sylhet on Saturday afternoon (February 7).
Dr. Shafiqur Rahman said, “We want to move forward; we don’t want to run like shrimps. We want to move like lions.”
Highlighting 54 years of oppression, he said Jamaat-e-Islami has been the “biggest victim,” with offices locked and houses of leaders and activists demolished during the last Awami League government. He alleged that after August 5, thousands of cases have been filed against members of his party.
The Jamaat Ameer also addressed local development issues:
-
Clean drinking water remains scarce, likened to “Aladdin’s lamp”
-
Rich mineral resources in Sylhet do not benefit the local population
-
Rivers have dried up, leaving barren lands
-
Electricity generated from Sylhet’s gas is not available everywhere
Dr. Shafiqur Rahman further said that a group maintains instability in Sylhet through alcohol, drugs, and weapons, and Jamaat-e-Islami has declared a war against these misdeeds. He added that under responsible governance, no one would dare to extort money or take bribes.
