Rajshahi, Feb 05 (V7N) — Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman urged the public to vote ‘yes’ in the upcoming elections while addressing an election rally at Madrasa Maidan in Rajshahi on Thursday.
Dr. Shafiqur criticized political actors who, in his words, fail to provide security and protect the dignity of citizens. “Those who were once oppressed but now exploit others have lost 234 of their own people while taking over various places. After that, they started killing and abusing us,” he said. “Those who refrain from extortion, corruption, and harassment are now being called ‘tyrants.’ Alas, what kind of world have we come to?”
He also called for calm and reasoned political participation. “Many people have become hot-headed in the month of Magh. What will they do in Chaitra? Keep a cool head. If you want to do politics, come with a cool head. If you get angry, you will lose,” he warned.
Highlighting Jamaat’s stance against corruption and dynastic politics, he said, “Hereditary politics will no longer be allowed in this country. Politics will be based on merit and ability. No hegemonic politics will be tolerated. We will maintain excellent relations with neighbors and the world, based on equality and dignity.”
Dr. Shafiqur also pledged significant reforms in education and healthcare. He criticized Rajshahi’s medical infrastructure, noting the lack of development in the region despite historical importance. “There is an old medical college here. A dental unit has been added, but a dental college is still needed. If we come to power, we will revive it without delay,” he said.
He further promised enhanced social protections, saying, “Mothers will be safe at home, in movement, and at work, with full dignity. Children’s nutrition and healthcare up to age five will be fully ensured. Specialized hospitals for workers in labor-intensive areas will also be established.”
Dr. Shafiqur concluded by warning against fascism in politics, referring to symbolic gestures by university students. “The youth of five universities have already shown their red cards. Fascism, a red card to you. We will continue to challenge oppressive politics.”
