Dhaka, Dec 08 (V7N) – Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman emphasized that the party’s politics focus on public welfare rather than individual or party interests. Speaking after a meeting with a European Union delegation on Monday, he said, “Jamaat works with religion; it never exploits it.”
Dr. Shafiqur discussed Bangladesh’s political situation and election preparedness with the EU representatives. He noted that due to limited public awareness, holding the general elections and referendum simultaneously could lead to confusion, suggesting that the elections be conducted separately if possible.
The Jamaat leader pledged that, if elected, his party would build an inclusive Bangladesh, ensure stability, restore economic policies, and uphold the rule of law for at least five years. He also stressed the importance of anti-corruption measures and equal justice without political interference.
Regarding BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia’s illness, Dr. Shafiqur said, “Health depends on the decision of Allah. The wheels of society should not halt due to her condition.” He highlighted that holding the February elections on schedule is crucial to prevent a political crisis.
Dr. Shafiqur called for unity among all citizens for the country’s welfare and future.
