Dhaka, Oct 10 (V7N) – Susan Riley, the High Commissioner of Australia to Bangladesh, met with Dr. Shafiqur Rahman, Ameer of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, on Thursday at the party office in the Bashundhara residential area of the capital.

According to a press release from Jamaat-e-Islami, the meeting covered various topics, including the party’s role in promoting proportional representation (PR) in elections and strengthening democracy. Discussions also focused on women’s rights, and the participation of women in social, economic, and administrative sectors, highlighting Jamaat’s position on enabling women to work independently.

The delegation reviewed Bangladesh’s economic potential, with detailed discussions on the development of the energy and ready-made garments sectors. During the meeting, the Australian High Commissioner appreciated Jamaat-e-Islami’s contribution to building a corruption-free society.

The meeting was attended by Jamaat-e-Islami Secretary General Mia Golam Parwar, Assistant Secretary General Ehsanul Mahbub Jubayer, Australian Deputy High Commissioner Clinton Pobke, and Political First Secretary Anna Peterson.
