Dhaka, Sep 04 (V7N) – BNP Chairperson’s advisor Zainul Abdin Faruk has alleged that Awami League is also involved in Jamaat-e-Islami’s “conspiracy” over the upcoming national elections, claiming that the ruling party will ultimately benefit from it.

Speaking at a sit-in protest organized by the Democracy Forum in front of the National Press Club on Wednesday, Faruk dismissed Jamaat’s demand for elections under a proportional representation (PR) system, describing it as a “ploy to rig the polls.”

“The people will resist the mischief of those trying to manipulate the election by raising PR smoke. The polls will be held under an interim government in line with the constitution,” Faruk asserted.

Faruk also welcomed today’s Appellate Division verdict, which upheld the High Court’s acquittal of BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman, former State Minister for Home Affairs Lutfuzzaman Babar, and others in the August 21 grenade attack case.

He congratulated Tarique Rahman for what he termed a “landmark acquittal.”
