Dhaka, Aug 31 (V7N) – BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi has alleged that allies of the Awami League within various levels of the administration are conspiring to obstruct fair elections. He expressed concerns over the conduct of free and impartial elections in the country.

Rizvi made the remarks after meeting Election Commissioners Abdur Rahmanel Machud and Anwarul Islam Sarkar at the Election Commission Building in Agargaon on Sunday.

“We have doubts about free and fair elections. Awami League allies are still present in various administrative levels and may attempt to create obstacles during the elections. I asked the commission about their preparations to prevent this,” Rizvi said.

He added that he hopes the current commission will conduct elections that are free, fair, and participatory. He noted that at present, a proportional representation (PR) system is not feasible, but the commission is taking all necessary measures to ensure proper electoral conduct.

Rizvi also called for a thorough investigation into the recent attack on People’s Rights Council President Nurul Haque Nur, urging accountability for those responsible.
