Sylhet, July 07 (V7N) — BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has expressed hope that an interim government will oversee the 13th National Parliament election, likely to be held in February.
He made the remarks on Monday morning while speaking to journalists after visiting the shrine of Hazrat Shahjalal (RA) in Sylhet.
Mirza Fakhrul emphasized that free and fair elections are essential to establishing democracy and guiding the country on the right path. “Establishing democracy and taking the nation forward is possible only through elections,” he said.
The BNP leader also called on everyone to work towards realizing the aspirations of the student-public movement, particularly the vision of the July student uprising, which witnessed bloodshed in pursuit of change.
During his visit, Mirza Fakhrul alleged that false cases have been filed against 6 million BNP leaders and activists nationwide, claiming that thousands have lost their lives as a result of political repression.
The BNP Secretary General arrived in Sylhet at 9:00 AM to offer prayers for the health of BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia and to attend a discussion organized by the Sylhet District and Metropolitan BNP.
