Dhaka, May 19 (V7N) – Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) President Dr. Col. (Retd.) Oli Ahmed Bir Bikram paid a visit to BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia at her residence, Firoza, in Gulshan on Sunday evening.
Oli Ahmed entered Khaleda Zia’s residence at 7:22 PM and left at 8:30 PM. According to Salahuddin Razzak, media advisor to the LDP chief, the two leaders had a cordial 45-minute discussion. During the meeting, Oli Ahmed inquired about Khaleda Zia’s health.
This is the second meeting between the two senior political figures in recent months. Earlier, on January 5, before heading to London for advanced medical treatment, Oli Ahmed met Khaleda Zia and spoke with her for about half an hour.
Following the meeting, Oli Ahmed spoke to reporters, expressing concern over the ongoing political and civic unrest in Dhaka. He criticized the government and law enforcement agencies for their inability to manage the capital’s growing deadlock caused by various "logical and irrational" demands, which have led to blockades on key roads and widespread public suffering.
"The government’s failure to address these issues is affecting people’s lives," said Oli. He emphasized the need for stronger leadership and urged the government’s advisors to take more decisive action in handling national affairs.
On the issue of the strategic corridor project, Oli Ahmed remarked that the government should not make such significant decisions unilaterally. "This is a critical national matter. The government must hold consultations with experienced political leaders and the armed forces before proceeding," he added.
