DHAKA, June 24, V7N— A Dhaka court on Wednesday placed actor Md Neyamot Ullah Bhuiyan, known as Zaher Alvi, on a two-day remand in a case filed over allegations that he abetted the suicide of his wife, Afra Ibnat Ikra.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Al Beruni Mir issued the order after police sought a seven-day remand on June 21, said Sub-Inspector Saiful Islam of Pallabi Police Station’s General Registration Branch.
Alvi surrendered to the court on June 18. Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Kamal Uddin sent him to jail at the time after the actor pleaded for bail.
Ikra, 33, a social media influencer, was found hanging at their Mirpur DOHS residence on February 28, 2026. She was taken to Kurmitola General Hospital, where doctors pronounced her dead.
Her father, Kabir Hayat Khan, filed a case the next day with Pallabi Police Station against Alvi and the actor’s mother, alleging they instigated Ikra to take her own life. The complaint cites family disputes and mental abuse as factors that drove her to suicide.
