Chattogram, Oct 2 (V7N) – A fire broke out in two abandoned train carriages at the SRB Station in the Majhirghat Bangla Bazar area of the port city today, according to a BSS report.

Upon receiving the information around 5:47 pm, Fire Service personnel rushed to the scene and brought the blaze under control by 6:45 pm.

Locals said that because the carriages were abandoned, they had been lying unused for many years, serving as a regular hangout spot for drug addicts. Earlier in April this year, a similar fire incident occurred in two carriages at the same location.

The Agrabad control room of the Fire Service said that a fire was reported in a railway carriage in the Bangla Bazar area this afternoon. Promptly responding to the call, one firefighting unit from the Bandar Station and two units from the Agrabad Station were dispatched to the scene.

Officials from the Chattogram Port Fire Station reported that there was hardly any furniture inside the carriages. However, one of the carriages was partially burned. The exact cause of the fire will be known after an investigation, they added.

Abandoned railway carriages at the SRB Station have been a recurring site of fire incidents, with a similar occurrence reported in April 2026. The area has reportedly become a haven for drug users, raising concerns about safety and security. Local authorities have been urged to take measures to prevent such incidents and address the underlying issues in the area.
