DHAKA, July 29 (V7N) – Stephen Forbes, the Country Director of the British Council, today met with Dhaka University (DU) Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Niaz Ahmed Khan at the latter’s office to discuss strengthening existing academic collaborations and exploring new avenues for cooperation.

During the meeting, held on Tuesday, July 29, 2025, discussions focused on enhancing ongoing joint collaborative academic programs between Dhaka University and the British Council through strategic planning and dialogue. They also explored the possibility of arranging a special event to further cement the relationship between the two esteemed institutions.

A key highlight of the meeting was Forbes' formal invitation to Professor Dr. Niaz Ahmed Khan to attend "Going Global 2025," a global higher education conference organized by the British Council. The conference is scheduled to take place from October 28-30, 2025, in London. "Going Global" is a biennial conference that serves as a strategic forum for leaders in international education to connect, share knowledge, and debate the future of further and higher education.

Professor Dr. Niaz Ahmed Khan expressed his gratitude for Forbes' visit and his keen interest in DU's academic and research activities. He emphasized the importance of undertaking more collaborative activities in research and innovation to elevate the quality of higher education in Bangladesh.

Stephen Forbes provided a detailed update on the British Council's current priorities, operational ambitions, and the challenges it faces in Bangladesh. He sought the Vice-Chancellor's cooperation in further strengthening the bilateral ties between Dhaka University and the British Council.

The British Council has a long-standing relationship with Dhaka University, dating back to 1951 when it first opened an office on the university premises. They have collaborated on various initiatives over the decades, including teacher training courses, cultural programs, scholarships, and academic exchanges.
