DHAKA, May 29, (V7N) — Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) AMM Nasir Uddin has said that the Election Commission (EC) will take appropriate action regarding BNP leader Ishraque Hossain’s assumption of office as Mayor of Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) after receiving the official copy of the Appellate Division’s verdict.

> “We have not yet received the copy of the verdict from the Appellate Division. Once we do, we will examine the legal aspects and take necessary steps,” the CEC told reporters following a meeting with other election commissioners at his office in Agargaon.

Earlier in the day, the Appellate Division, led by Chief Justice Syed Refaat Ahmed, disposed of a Leave to Appeal petition with observation after hearing arguments from both the petitioner’s counsel and Ishraque Hossain’s lawyer.

The outcome of this legal proceeding could potentially clear the way for Ishraque, a prominent BNP figure, to formally assume the mayoral office of DSCC, depending on the legal interpretation and procedural review by the Election Commission
