Mumbai, Sep 03 (V7N)- The popular Indian web series Mirzapur is making its way to the big screen, with Mirzapur: The Movie set to hit theaters on September 4 after three seasons and nearly seven years of the series.
According to Hindustan Times, the film could open strongly at the domestic box office. If it earns Rs 25 crore on its first day, it would surpass the reported opening-day collections of recently released films Sayyaraa (Rs 22 crore) and Awarapan 2 (Rs 21.50 crore).
The film is reportedly set to run parallel to the storyline of the first season of the web series. Pankaj Tripathi will reprise his popular role as Kaleen Bhaiya, while Ali Fazal and Divyenndu will also return. The movie will feature both familiar characters and new additions.
Advance bookings began several days ahead of the release, with sales accelerating as the premiere approaches. Around 1.4 lakh tickets had been sold by 10am on Thursday (September 3), generating advance revenue of around Rs 4 crore. Almost all of the bookings were for the Hindi-language version.
According to Sacnilk, the film will also be released in a Telugu-dubbed version. However, only 372 tickets had been sold for the Telugu version across 15 screens by Thursday morning.
On BookMyShow, Mirzapur: The Movie was selling more than 2,500 tickets per hour on Thursday morning, indicating growing interest ahead of its release.
Although advance bookings have not yet reached exceptionally high levels, trade analysts remain optimistic about the film's prospects. The franchise has a particularly strong following in tier-2 and tier-3 cities, where spot bookings on the release day could significantly boost its earnings.
Expectations have also risen since the release of the film's first teaser earlier this year. Last week, most trade experts estimated an opening-day collection of Rs 18–20 crore. That projection has now increased, with some analysts expecting the film to open above Rs 22 crore and potentially reach Rs 25 crore in net domestic earnings.
A first-day collection of Rs 25 crore or more is generally associated with films featuring some of India's biggest pan-India stars. Apart from actors such as the three Khans, Akshay Kumar and Hrithik Roshan, relatively few performers have consistently delivered openings at that level.
If Mirzapur: The Movie achieves the projected opening, it could mark a significant box-office milestone for Pankaj Tripathi, Ali Fazal and Divyenndu.
