Rajshahi, Aug 26 (V7N)- Bangladesh Islami Chhatra Shibir has announced that it will not take responsibility for the activities or financial affairs of Salahuddin Ammar, General Secretary (GS) of the Rajshahi University Central Students' Union (RUCSU).

The organization made the announcement at a press conference held at the university's Paribahan Market premises on Tuesday.

RB Shibir President Mujahid Faisal expressed dissatisfaction over the budget allocated for official expenses. He alleged that the RUCSU GS had withdrawn Tk 3.70 lakh for official activities and shown expenditures under various departments, which he described as unrealistic.

According to Faisal, representatives of the organization estimate that the combined expenditure of the other departments should not have exceeded Tk 50,000–60,000.

He called for the publication of detailed accounts, including supporting documents showing how much money was spent by each department.

Faisal said Salahuddin Ammar was not elected from the Shibir panel and therefore the organization would not take responsibility for his activities or financial accounts.

At the press conference, the organization placed five demands, including the immediate announcement of details regarding the next RUCSU election.

The other demands include:

  • Formulating a clear roadmap to ensure 100 percent residential facilities for students.

  • Introducing housing allowances for non-residential students.

  • Establishing a full-fledged and modern medical centre.

  • Making the university senate fully functional.

  • Including RUCSU elections in the university's academic calendar.

Regarding the election schedule, Mujahid Faisal said around 10 months have already passed since the previous RUCSU election. He warned that preparations for the next election should begin immediately to ensure elections are held regularly.

He demanded that the university administration include RUCSU elections in the academic calendar so students can elect their representatives every year.

Speaking about RUCSU's achievements during its first 10 months, Faisal claimed that incidents of tagging, framing and bullying of female students had decreased significantly on campus.

He also claimed that drug abuse had declined, political coexistence had improved, and practices such as seat trading, guest-room culture and public-room culture had been eliminated.

According to him, seats are now being allocated based on merit and seniority, which he described as one of the major changes on campus.

Shibir General Secretary Mehedi Hasan, elected RUCSU representatives from different residential halls, and other leaders and activists of the organization were also present at the press conference.
