Dhaka, Nov 17 (V7N) – Students of Dhaka University (DU) celebrated jubilantly after the International Crimes Tribunal sentenced ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to death for crimes against humanity committed during the July uprising. Sweets were distributed as part of the celebrations.
From 11 am on Monday, the Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (DUCSU) arranged to show the verdict live on a big screen at the Payra campus of the TSC. Students gathered in large numbers to watch the tribunal’s announcement.
Following the announcement of Sheikh Hasina’s death sentence, the students staged a joyous procession. Political party leaders also expressed satisfaction over the verdict. Celebrations were observed not only at the TSC but also in areas such as Dhanmondi No. 32.
Alongside Sheikh Hasina, the tribunal sentenced former Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal to death, while former IGP Chowdhury Abdullah Al Mamun, a key witness in the case, received a five-year prison sentence. The tribunal also ordered the seizure of properties belonging to Sheikh Hasina and Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal, to be distributed to the martyrs of the July uprising.
