Dhaka, Aug 13 (V7N) – The nomination process for the upcoming Dhaka University Central Student Union (DUCSU) election officially commenced on Tuesday, with seven candidates collecting nomination forms on the very first day. The election, widely regarded as a significant platform for student leadership in Bangladesh, is drawing early interest from aspirants vying for key positions.
According to Mohammad Jasim Uddin, the chief returning officer (CRO) overseeing the election, two candidates collected nomination forms for the highly contested post of Vice President (VP), while five candidates secured forms to contest for the general membership seats in the student council.
The nomination form distribution will continue until August 18, allowing students sufficient time to prepare their candidacies. Forms are being distributed daily from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the CRO’s office, located on the third floor of the Nawab Nawab Ali Chowdhury Senate Building within the Dhaka University campus.
Candidates must submit their completed nomination papers by 3 p.m. on August 19. Following submission, the election commission will scrutinize the nominations and publish the final list of candidates, setting the stage for the campaigning period.
DUCSU elections, held periodically, play a crucial role in shaping student representation and influencing university policies. They often draw attention from various student groups and political factions due to the union’s historical significance and its impact on national student movements.
The election for DUCSU typically includes multiple key posts such as President, Vice President, General Secretary, Assistant General Secretary, and Members. This year, the election is anticipated to be competitive, reflecting the dynamic nature of student politics at Dhaka University.
Students and observers alike are keenly watching the nomination and campaign phases, with expectations that the electoral process will be transparent, peaceful, and inclusive, allowing the voice of the student body to be fairly represented.
The returning officer’s office encourages all eligible candidates to participate responsibly and abide by the election code of conduct. Security measures and administrative preparations are underway to ensure the elections are conducted smoothly.
The DUCSU election results are expected to be announced in late August or early September, following the conclusion of voting and vote counting.
