The Education Minister addressed the district and service association representative conference and extended meeting of the organization at the Institution of Diploma Engineers-Bangladesh (IEDB) auditorium on Saturday, March 2nd. Engineer AKM A Hamid, President of IEDB, chaired the meeting, with Engineer Rezwan Ahmed Taufiq as a special guest, and Engineer Mohammad Shamsur Rahman, General Secretary of IEDB, delivering the welcome speech.

During the event, the minister emphasized the importance of utilizing diploma engineers to address the teacher crisis, proposing increased participation of diploma engineers in the educational curriculum, particularly in math and science teaching roles. He highlighted the demand for math and science teachers in private educational institutions, estimating a shortage of around 60 thousand teachers, and suggested employing diploma engineers to alleviate this shortage.

Addressing the issue of granting graduate equivalent status to Diploma Engineers, the minister pointed out the shorter duration of diploma programs compared to traditional degree courses. He proposed granting BSc (Pass) equivalent status to diploma holders who work for one year in a government or private institution, subject to further discussion and consensus among stakeholders.
