Gaibandha, Oct 03 (V7N)- Rajkumari Ravidas Fulmati, a war-heroine and female freedom fighter from Sadullapur in Gaibandha who suffered torture during Bangladesh’s Liberation War in 1971, was given a state guard of honor following her death.

The guard of honor was held at around 3 pm Friday at the Uttarpara Government Primary School grounds in Sadullapur. Assistant Commissioner and Executive Magistrate of the Deputy Commissioner’s Office Md. Ashraful Haque conducted the state honors.

Sadullapur Police Station’s Officer-in-Charge (Investigation) Hasan Kabir, along with officials from the administration and police, attended the ceremony.

Fulmati was later buried beside her ancestors in the courtyard of her home according to Hindu religious customs.

She died at her residence on Thursday evening at the age of 84. She had been suffering from various age-related illnesses for several years and had remained largely bedridden after suffering a stroke about two years ago.

She is survived by four sons and one daughter, as well as grandchildren and numerous admirers.

According to Hridoye Ekattor, edited by writer and researcher Zahurul Qayyum, Fulmati Rani was born in Manoharpur village of Jamalpur Union in Sadullapur.

The book records that Pakistani forces and their collaborators detained and tortured her during the Liberation War. It also recounts an incident in which she was tortured in front of her husband.

Fulmati received state recognition as a war-heroine and freedom fighter in March 2016, 45 years after Bangladesh’s independence. A four-room Bir Nibas was built for her in 2017.

After the death of her husband, Kushiram Sarkar Fasiya, in 1988, Fulmati raised her family while facing financial hardship. Despite her difficult circumstances, she remained self-reliant and continued to live with dignity until her death.
