PABNA, May 24 (V7N): A 60-year-old man was brutally beaten to death in Ishwardi upazila of Pabna following a violent neighborly dispute triggered by a goat eating leaves from a tree. Law enforcement authorities acted swiftly to bring the resulting local tensions under control, apprehending one of the prime suspects from the locality.
The fatal alteration occurred around 11:30 am on Sunday in the Sahapur Purbapara neighborhood under Sahapur union of the upazila. The deceased has been identified as Mahabul Hossain, son of the late Azizul Pramanik, a resident of the local village.
According to community residents and police investigators, the dispute erupted when a domestic goat owned by Mahabul wandered near the property of his neighbors and began grazing on the leaves of a tree. Spotting the animal, neighbor Abul Bashar Munshi and his elder brother, Taslim Munshi, confronted Mahabul, initiating a heated verbal argument between both parties.
As the confrontation escalated, the two brothers reportedly became violent, attacking Mahabul with heavy wooden sticks. The attackers repeatedly struck the elderly man across his neck, head, and various parts of his body, causing him to collapse to the ground with critical internal injuries. Local villagers and relatives rushed to the scene to rescue the unconscious victim and transported him to the Ishwardi Upazila Health Complex, where the attending medical officer officially pronounced him dead on arrival.
News of the brutal killing spread rapidly, causing severe communal tension and unrest across Sahapur union. Upon receiving alerts, an emergency contingent from the Ishwardi Police Station arrived at the spot to restore public order and defuse further retaliatory violence.
Ishwardi Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md. Asadur Rahman confirmed that police personnel launched immediate targeted raids and successfully arrested the accused neighbor, Abul Bashar Munshi, son of Abul Kashem Munshi. The official stated that additional police pickets have been temporarily deployed across the village to maintain structural security, while specialized police teams continue their operations to tracking down the fleeing co-accused, Taslim Munshi. The victim's family is currently preparing to file a formal murder case with the station.
