PABNA, May 20, (V7N)– Law enforcement in Pabna carried out three major operations in one day, highlighting the district’s intensified crackdown on crime.

Eight members of a kidnapping gang were arrested during a raid at Gopalpur intersection in Hemayetpur Union, Pabna Sadar. Two college students – Mazharul Islam Prant (19) and Tanvir Hossain Tanmoy (18) – were rescued.

The gang had demanded Tk 3 lakh ransom from Prant’s family.

Four motorcycles and several mobile phones used in the crime were seized.

The operation was led by DB Police OC Rashidul Islam, under SP Sufi Ullah’s direction.

ASP (Crime) Rezinur Rahman confirmed the arrests and said a case is being filed for kidnapping and extortion.

Police arrested Md. Shihab (18), a madrasa student, in connection with the death of Md. Abdullah (10), whose body was found hanging in a bathroom at Alok Quran International Hifz Madrasa in Banasree, Dhaka.

Shihab, accused of sexually assaulting students, was arrested in Bera upazila, Pabna, after fleeing the madrasa.

Investigators suspect Abdullah committed suicide after being raped.

SI Ekramul Haque of Rampura Police Station is leading the investigation.

Abdullah’s death has raised serious concerns about child safety in madrasas.

At Rooppur Gol Chattar in Ishwardi, police arrested Mahruj Ahmed (30) with 40 bottles of beer during a night patrol.

He was charged under the Narcotics Control Act.

Police in-charge Mahbubul Alam confirmed the arrest.

Mahruj was sent to jail through court proceedings on Thursday morning.
