RAJSHAHI, MAY 19 (V7N) - A drug market has sprung up openly in the ID Baganpara area adjacent to the Daspukur railway line in Rajshahi city.

Locals complain that various drugs including heroin, yaba, marijuana, and tapentadol are being sold freely in the area from evening to late at night every day. This is destroying the youth community in the area, and anger is growing among the general public due to the lack of effective role of the relevant administration.

Local residents said that for a long time, an organized gang has been controlling the drug trade in the area. Drug gatherings are held every day, especially around the railway line and nearby deserted places. There are allegations that drug addicts are coming from far and wide to gather there.

Locals claim that the law and order situation is deteriorating day by day due to drug dealers. Theft, robbery, teenage gang violence and social unrest are increasing at an alarming rate. The movement of women and students has also become unsafe after evening.

Some parents, speaking on condition of anonymity, said, "We are extremely worried about our children. Even though drugs are being sold openly, for some mysterious reason, no one is saying anything. Even though raids are conducted occasionally, they are not able to bring any permanent solution."

Local activists have demanded that regular raids be conducted in the area, drug dealers arrested, and permanent surveillance be ensured. They said that if strict action is not taken now, the entire youth community in the area will face a terrible disaster.

Although the statement of the concerned law enforcement officials was not available on this matter, the locals hope that the administration will take effective steps quickly and take visible initiatives to stop the drug trade in the Daspukur railway line area.
