PATHARGHATA (BARGUNA), May 8 (V7N) — A driver was killed and two others were injured after a freight-carrying engine-powered "tomtom" (local three-wheeler) overturned in Patharghata, Barguna. The accident occurred after 3:00 PM on Friday in the Munshirhat area on the Patharghata-Mathbaria regional highway.
The deceased has been identified as Iliyas (40), son of Nurul Islam from Kalipur village in Kalmegha Union. The injured are Al Amin (30) and Mosharraf Hossain (30).
According to eyewitnesses, Iliyas was driving the vehicle from Munshirhat toward Patharghata. The accident reportedly happened when an oncoming battery-powered rickshaw attempted to overtake another rickshaw, creating an uncontrollable situation on the road. In an attempt to maneuver, the tomtom overturned, trapping all three men underneath the vehicle.
Locals rescued the victims and rushed them to the Patharghata Upazila Health Complex. Dr. Pradip Datta, the duty doctor at the health complex, stated that due to the severity of their injuries, all three were referred to the Barishal Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital for advanced care. However, Iliyas succumbed to his injuries around 8:00 PM while being transported, before reaching the Mathbaria area.
