RAJSHAHI, May 3, (V7N) — Rajshahi City Corporation (RCC) Administrator Md. Mahfuzur Rahman Riton has launched a special campaign to remove mud from primary and secondary drains across the metropolis to prevent waterlogging during the upcoming monsoon season.

From morning to noon on Saturday, the administrator supervised excavator operations at Barnali rail crossing, Mathurdanga intersection, Apple Decorator intersection, and Bheripara, while also inspecting manual cleaning by workers in smaller drains. He emphasized completing the work quickly to keep the drainage system functional before heavy rains.

Riton urged residents not to throw garbage into drains and warned against sealing drain pockets with concrete, which obstructs cleaning. “We are working day and night for citizen welfare. But citizens must also cooperate,” he said.

Officials including CEO Md. Rezaul Karim, Chief Cleaning Officer Sheikh Md. Mamun, and Deputy Chief Cleaning Officer Selim Reza Ranju accompanied him. RCC has intensified both daytime and nighttime operations to minimize public suffering.

Meanwhile, Rajshahi University of Engineering and Technology (RUET) announced plans to hold its 6th convocation and celebrate its 60th anniversary (Diamond Jubilee) later this year. The decision was taken at the university’s 157th Academic Council meeting on Saturday.

The last convocation was held in December 2019, leaving many graduates awaiting original certificates. Students applying abroad with temporary certificates have pressed the administration for urgent issuance, making the convocation a priority.

RUET, founded in 1964 as Rajshahi Engineering College, later became BIT Rajshahi in 1986 and was upgraded to RUET in 2003. Over six decades, it has produced renowned engineers serving nationally and internationally.
