JHALAKATHI, April 30 (V7N) — At least ten passengers were injured when a passenger bus lost control and plunged into a roadside ditch in Nalchiti upazila Thursday morning.

The incident occurred on the Barisal–Patuakhali highway near Dapadpiya Chowmatha. The bus, Abdullah Paribahan, was en route to Barguna from Dhaka when it skidded on a rain‑soaked road and overturned. Locals said excessive speed and slippery conditions caused the accident.

Several passengers were rushed to Barisal Sher‑e‑Bangla Medical College Hospital with serious injuries, while others received primary treatment. OC Ariful Alam of Nalchiti Police Station confirmed police quickly reached the spot, arranged treatment, and restored traffic flow.

Meanwhile in Dhaka, Dr. Ziauddin Haider, newly appointed Prime Minister’s Special Assistant on Health Affairs with the rank of State Minister, joined Jhalakathi District BNP leaders in paying tribute at the tomb of martyred President Ziaur Rahman and praying for the health of Begum Khaleda Zia.

Speaking to journalists, Dr. Haider said: “The trust and responsibility of the Honorable Prime Minister is both an honor and a great responsibility. I promise to work to provide modern and quality healthcare at the doorstep of every person in the country.”

He emphasized plans to build a people‑friendly health system through digital healthcare, strengthening community clinics, and recruiting skilled doctors and nurses, particularly in rural areas.

District leaders expressed confidence that his leadership would bring positive changes in the health sector, ensuring fair access to medical services nationwide.
