April 22, (V7N) — Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) arrested a man with a pistol during a raid at the Hoi Kyung check post in Teknaf, Cox’s Bazar on Wednesday evening.

The detainee, Mohammad Hamid (39) of Phuler Deil village in Hnila union, was stopped around 7:30 pm while driving a CNG auto‑rickshaw towards Cox’s Bazar. According to a press release issued Thursday morning, Hamid attempted to flee when signaled to stop, but BGB members intercepted the vehicle.

A search revealed a 9mm pistol and a magazine hidden inside the driver’s seat. During initial interrogation, Hamid admitted he was transporting the weapon from a Rohingya man to deliver it to the Palangkhali area of Ukhia.

Lieutenant Colonel Md. Zahirul Islam, commander of the Ukhia Battalion (64 BGB), confirmed the arrest and said operations against drugs, smuggling, and illegal weapons in border areas have been intensified. Hamid has been handed over to Teknaf Model Police Station.
