HABIGANJ, April 15, (V7N) — Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) seized illegal Indian cosmetics and cumin seeds worth Tk 7.8 million in two separate operations in Madhabpur upazila of Habiganj, officials said Sunday.
According to a press release, acting on a secret tip‑off, a special patrol team of the 55th BGB Battalion took position at Muktijoddha Chattar along the Dhaka‑Sylhet highway in the early hours of Sunday. Around 1 am, the team intercepted a truck and recovered a large quantity of Indian cosmetics hidden under cartons.
Later, at around 8 am, another operation in the same area led to the seizure of illegal Indian cumin seeds concealed inside sacks in a covered van.
The BGB estimated the total value of the seized goods at Tk 7.8 million. Officials said the process of handing over the items to the concerned customs office is underway.
Colonel Tanzilur Rahman, commander of the 55th BGB Battalion, stated: “BGB is always vigilant to prevent smuggling in the border areas. To protect the country’s economy and prevent the entry of illegal goods, our operations are being conducted regularly and will continue in the future.”
