RAJSHAHI, April 10 (V7N) - A human chain program was held in Rajshahi on behalf of Swechchhasebak Dal leader Moniruzzaman Shanto in protest against the case filed against him for threatening to rape. The program was held at Sahebbazar Zero Point in the city at around 11:30 am on Wednesday (date).
Leaders and activists of various units of the Mahanagar Swechchhasebak Dal, relatives of the accused and locals participated in the human chain. Saikat Parvez, the office secretary of the Mahanagar Swechchhasebak Dal, spoke as the main speaker.
The speakers claimed that a case was filed against Moniruzzaman Shanto in a conspiratorial manner and that he was innocent. They demanded the immediate withdrawal of the case. The program also made objectionable comments about the university student, the plaintiff in the case.
It is learned that Moniruzzaman Shanto is the convener of the volunteer group of Boalia (West) police station in Rajshahi city. His home is in Barakuthi area. He and his brother run a motorcycle garage there.
A 23-year-old student of a private university alleged that Moniruzzaman threatened to rape her publicly on Saturday evening after she refused to accept a motorcycle parking ticket. A case was filed with Boalia Police Station the next Sunday morning. Shanto and his brother Shuvo have been named as accused in the case.
However, the police have not yet been able to arrest anyone in the incident. Police claim that the accused cannot be found.
Earlier, another case was filed against Moniruzzaman Shanto in February last year for allegedly attacking and vandalizing a puja mandap in the area. He was not arrested in that case either.
