JHALAKATI, April 9 (V7N) — Md. Kamrul Islam, the in‑charge youth development officer at Rajapur Upazila Youth Development Office, has been accused of beating the wife of an office assistant during an altercation at his office Thursday afternoon.

According to witnesses, office assistant cum computer operator Md. Anwar Hossain, who has been suffering from long‑term illness, came to the office with his wife Mosa Rani Begum to meet the officer. Later in the day, Kamrul Islam allegedly misbehaved with them and, at one stage, struck Rani Begum in the face with a stapler machine, leaving her injured and unconscious. She was rescued and taken to Rajapur Upazila Health Complex for treatment.

The incident has created a huge sensation in the area, with locals demanding a quick investigation and action against the accused officer.

Rani Begum alleged that the officer attempted to assault her husband, and when she intervened, she was attacked. However, Kamrul Islam denied the allegations, claiming, “They are doing this themselves. I did not beat anyone.”

Rajapur Upazila Executive Officer (UNO) Rifat Ara Maury said, “I have heard about the matter. If the victims file a written complaint, an investigation will be conducted and necessary action will be taken.”

Rajapur Police Station Officer‑in‑Charge (OC) Md. Nazrul Islam confirmed that no written complaint has been received yet, but assured that legal action will follow if a complaint is filed.
