UKHIA, April 10, (V7N) — A Rohingya youth was critically injured in a landmine explosion inside Myanmar near the Balukhali border in Ukhia, Cox’s Bazar, on Friday morning.
The victim, Md. Sadek (23), a resident of Balukhali Rohingya Camp‑10, was first treated at Kutupalong MSF Hospital before being transferred to Cox’s Bazar Sadar Hospital due to his serious condition, family sources said.
According to the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB), the blast occurred around 10 am in an area known as ‘Dub Bagan’ inside Myanmar. BGB personnel reported hearing the explosion and later saw the injured youth crossing the zero line into Bangladesh.
Local residents assisted in rescuing Sadek, who had reportedly crossed into Myanmar to fish when the mine detonated.
Lieutenant Colonel Zahirul Islam, commander of the Ukhia Battalion, confirmed the incident, noting that a group of fishermen had entered Myanmar’s interior to fish when Sadek was struck by the explosion.
