SYLHET, April 10 (V7N) — A two‑day dance festival has begun in Sylhet, marking the 20th anniversary of prominent dance organization Nrityashayli under the slogan “The Joy of Life.”
The festival, titled “Nabin Praner Basante o Shesh Bikeller Rang,” opened Thursday at the Kabi Nazrul Auditorium in Rikabi Bazar and will continue until Friday. Its aim is to showcase the success of Nrityashayli in promoting and developing pure dance over two decades.
The welcome address was delivered by vocal artist Najma Parveen, Sukanta Gupta, and dance director Nalanjana Jui. The event was inaugurated by lighting the Mangal lamp in the presence of distinguished guests including Rajesh Bhatia, Second Secretary of the Indian Assistant High Commission; Colonel Abdus Salam Bir Pratik; senior musician Himanshu Biswas; poet Tushar Kar; and several cultural leaders from Sylhet.
The first day featured vibrant performances:
“Nabin Praner Basant” — a spring‑themed dance by new students that captivated the audience.
“Shesh Bikeler Rang” — an aesthetic collection performed by senior artists, blending classical, folk, and creative dance.
Speakers noted that since its founding in 2006, Nrityashayli has produced numerous talented artists. The festival has become a reunion for current and former students, with guests expressing hope for further enrichment of Sylhet’s cultural arena.
Prominent cultural figures, poets, journalists, and civil society representatives attended the inaugural ceremony.
