Rajshahi, Mar 14 (V7N) – A construction worker died after falling from the roof of a four-storey building under construction in Rajshahi city on Saturday morning.

The deceased was identified as Sabbir (27), a resident of the Malda Colony area of the city. He was the son of Abdullah and Parul Begum.

According to locals, the accident occurred around 10:30 am at a building being constructed by Ismail Hossain behind Shalbagan City Garage under Chandrima Police Station in Rajshahi.

Family members said Sabbir had gone to work at the site in the morning along with his elder brother Shakil Ahmed. While working on the fourth floor, Sabbir reportedly slipped while lifting wooden materials and fell onto the roof of a nearby two-storey building.

He died on the spot due to the impact, relatives said.

Sabbir was married and the father of two children — a five-year-old son and a three-year-old daughter. He had one brother and one sister.

Building owner Ismail Hossain said he was at the market when he received news that a worker had fallen from the roof of his building and died.

The owner’s eldest son Suman claimed that workers had been instructed to use safety guards while working on the building, adding that agreements were made requiring safety measures before work could be carried out.

Sub-Inspector Ziaur Rahman of Chandrima Police Station said police visited the scene after receiving the information and the body would be sent to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital for autopsy.
