MONGLA, Bagerhat, Mar 11, (V7N) – A member of the Bangladesh Coast Guard died by suicide early Wednesday morning while on duty at the West Zone Headquarters guard room in Mongla.

The deceased was identified as Saleh Ahmed (42). According to officials, he shot himself in the chest with his service weapon at around 7:40 am. Fellow Coast Guard members immediately rescued him and rushed him to Khulna Upashoma Hospital, where the duty doctor declared him dead.

Preparations are underway to transfer his body to the Mongla Upazila Health Complex for a medical death certificate, after which it will be sent to the Bagerhat Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsy. Police confirmed that the body will be handed over to his family following completion of the autopsy.

Mongla Police Station Officer‑in‑Charge Sheikh Shahinur Rahman said: “I have heard that Coast Guard member Saleh Ahmed committed suicide by pressing the weapon he was holding to his chest. A case of accidental death will be filed at the police station in this incident.”
