COX’S BAZAR, March 1, (V7N) - Abu Taher (42), an auto-rickshaw driver from Kalatali Adarsh village, has died three days after suffering severe burns in the N Alam gas pump fire in Cox’s Bazar. He passed away Sunday afternoon at the Burn and Plastic Surgery Department of Dhaka Medical College Hospital, according to family sources.

Taher was among 15 injured when a gas leak triggered a massive blaze at the pump on February 25. Six victims were admitted to the burn unit of Chittagong Medical College Hospital, including Taher, who sustained 90 percent burns. His condition worsened, prompting transfer to Dhaka, where he later succumbed.

The fire, caused by a leak from the pump tank, led to a loud explosion and spread rapidly, destroying around 30 cars, four houses, and nearby structures. Victims reported being trapped as flames engulfed the area.

Cox’s Bazar Sadar Police Station OC Md. Chhami Uddin confirmed Taher’s death, saying legal action will follow once the body arrives in Cox’s Bazar.

The district administration has formed a five-member investigation committee headed by Additional District Magistrate Md. Shahidul Alam. The committee will submit its report within seven days.
