Rangamati, Feb 18 (V7N) – Police have arrested alleged drug kingpin Jasim Uddin (46), an accused in 22 cases, from the DC office area of Rangamati town, police officials confirmed.
Rangamati Kotwali Police Station Officer-in-Charge Md. Jasim Uddin said the accused, a resident of Kathaltoli area in Rangamati, had long been under surveillance by law enforcement agencies due to his involvement in multiple criminal activities, particularly drug-related offences.
According to police, a raid was conducted in the DC office এলাকায় on Tuesday afternoon based on a tip-off. Sensing the presence of police, Jasim attempted to flee, but the OC himself chased and apprehended him. He was later taken to Kotwali Police Station.
Police sources said Jasim Uddin has a total of 22 cases filed against him, most under the Narcotics Control Act, 2018. Several other cases have also been lodged against him under different sections of the Penal Code, including 143, 341, 323, 325, 307, 379 and 506.
Law enforcement records indicate that he was arrested and released on bail multiple times between 2013 and 2025. He has been included in charge sheets in several cases and has also been convicted in drug-related cases in the past. In one case, he was reportedly sentenced to six months of rigorous imprisonment along with a fine, while in another drug case he received a one-year jail term.
Police further said there are multiple GR warrants and conviction-related warrants pending against the accused, and he has previously been arrested as a warranted defendant on several occasions on charges related to drug trafficking.
The OC stated, “No one is above the law. Jasim Uddin, who had been a fugitive for a long time and is accused in numerous cases, has now been arrested. The ongoing cases against him will proceed in accordance with the law.”
Police also reiterated that their anti-drug drive will continue as part of a strict stance to curb narcotics and related crimes in the district.
