Feb 18 (V7N) – Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has arrested three alleged members of Myanmar’s armed group Arakan Army while attempting to illegally enter Bangladesh through the Amtali border in Ghumdhum Union along the Bangladesh-Myanmar frontier.

According to BGB sources, the arrests were made around 6:30 pm on Monday during routine patrol operations in Ward No. 8 of the Amtali border area under Naikhongchhari upazila. The patrol team challenged three suspicious individuals while they were trying to cross the border and subsequently detained them.

During preliminary interrogation, the detainees reportedly identified themselves as members of the Arakan Army. Myanmar currency (kyat) was recovered from their possession. However, authorities did not disclose further details regarding any weapons or other items due to ongoing investigations.

One of the detainees has been identified as Shahidul Islam, a resident of Ukhia, according to local sources.

The detained individuals were later handed over to Naikhongchhari Police Station for legal proceedings.

Confirming the matter, Officer-in-Charge (OC) Abdul Baten Mridha of Naikhongchhari Police Station said that BGB detained three Arakan Army members from the border and transferred them to the police for necessary legal action.

Naikhongchhari Upazila Executive Officer Muhammad Mazharul Islam Chowdhury also acknowledged the incident, stating that the matter is being treated with utmost seriousness.

Relevant sources said security measures in the border এলাকায় have been tightened and BGB patrols intensified to prevent any further infiltration attempts.
