Rangpur, February 22, (V7N) — Akhtar Hossain, Member Secretary of the National Citizen Party (NCP) and the newly elected Member of Parliament for the Rangpur-4 (Pirgachha-Kaunia) constituency, has leveled serious allegations of post-election violence against supporters of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP).

On Sunday afternoon, MP Akhtar Hossain visited the residence of Sumon Hossain, a local NCP organizer in the Haragach Balarghat area of Kaunia, whose home was reportedly vandalized during the unrest. Speaking to reporters at the scene, Akhtar claimed that "terrorist forces" linked to the BNP candidate for the constituency, Emdadul Haque Bhorsa, were responsible for the attacks on NCP and Jamaat-e-Shibir activists.

Looting and Vandalism: The MP alleged that attackers looted livelihood assets, gold, and cash from the victim's family, effectively destroying their means of survival.

Criticism of the Administration: Akhtar expressed frustration with the local administration and law enforcement, accusing them of "pleasing the ruling party" and failing to take action while they were under the jurisdiction of the Election Commission during the violence.

A "Contradiction in Values": He pointed out a perceived irony in the BNP’s national rhetoric, stating that while the party leadership discusses welfare measures like "family cards," their local cadres are allegedly "destroying families" through violence.

Akhtar Hossain, who contested the February 12 national election as a prominent face of the NCP and the 11-party alliance, urged for immediate legal intervention to protect minority political voices in the region. He emphasized that the vision for a "New Bangladesh" has no room for the culture of intimidation and looting that has historically marred the country's political landscape.

While the local BNP leadership has yet to issue a formal response to these specific allegations, the situation in Haragach remains tense. Local authorities have stated that they are monitoring the area to prevent further escalation and are investigating the claims of vandalism.
