Rajshahi, Feb 23 (V7N) – Iftar markets have come alive across Rajshahi city as the holy month of Ramadan brings a festive atmosphere to neighborhoods, intersections and major commercial areas.

From late afternoon, temporary stalls line the streets, offering a wide range of traditional iftar items including beguni, piyaju, potato fritters, haleem, jilapi, dates, fruits and colorful drinks. Vendors have also introduced iftar packages priced between 100 and 300 taka to attract customers from different income groups.

The largest crowds have been seen in areas such as Shaheb Bazar, New Market, Kazla and Laxmipur. Trading begins around 3:00 pm and continues until just before Maghrib prayers.

Abdul Kader, an iftar vendor at Shaheb Bazar, said sales increase several times during Ramadan. However, he noted that rising raw material costs have reduced profit margins, making it increasingly difficult to sustain the business.

Rubel Hossain, a vendor in Kazla, said they are striving to maintain cleanliness and food quality to retain customer trust. He added that crowds begin gathering at stalls shortly after Asr prayers.

Customers say busy schedules often prevent them from preparing iftar at home. Saiful Islam, a bank employee buying food at New Market, said purchasing ready-made packages saves time after office hours. Rahima Begum, a homemaker in Laxmipur, said although prices seem slightly higher, the convenience of getting everything in one place is helpful, while emphasizing the need for hygienic and adulteration-free food.

Doctors have advised consumers to remain cautious when buying food sold in open spaces, recommending that customers choose freshly prepared and properly covered items.

Overall, the Ramadan spirit has brought renewed vibrancy to Rajshahi’s iftar markets, with bustling crowds creating a festive scene across the city each afternoon.
