Jan 16, (V7N) - Khandaker Maksudur Rahman Masud has been elected president and Malay Kumar Das secretary in the Pabna District Advocate Bar Association elections following a day-long vote held on Monday.
Voting took place from 10:00am to 4:00pm, with 388 out of 420 members of the association casting their ballots. A total of 39 candidates contested the election under three different panels.
Senior member and learned lawyer Abdur Rahim Khan served as the Chief Election Commissioner and officially announced the results at night after completion of voting and counting.
According to the results, Masud secured the president post with 202 votes, defeating his closest rival Alhaj Mirza Azizur Rahman, who received 131 votes, while another candidate Abdul Hamid PK obtained 52 votes.
For the secretary post, Malay Kumar Das won with 139 votes, narrowly ahead of Alhaj Sultan Mahmud Khan (Ehia) who got 125 votes, and Kazi Mahbubul Alam who secured 122 votes.
In the vice-president category, Shahidul Islam Biswas Ranju was elected with 198 votes and Rezaul Karim Salam with 155 votes, surpassing other contenders including Shamsuddoha Jami, Matiar Rahman Bahez, Matiar Rahman and Alhaj Golam Rabbani.
Masud Alam was elected treasurer with 191 votes, while his closest rivals Manjur Alam Biswas and Abdul Awal Joaddar received 111 and 71 votes respectively.
Aziza Tamanna Swarna won the post of Joint Secretary (Development) with 157 votes, Monruzzaman Mizan secured Joint Secretary (Library) with 159 votes, and Deepak Kumar Roy Dipu was elected Joint Secretary (Culture) with 179 votes.
Uddin Liton was elected auditor with 143 votes, defeating Ashrafur Rahman Sumon and Khandaker Shah Alam Swapan.
The four member posts were won by Mustasim Nabi Niku, Shamima Afroz Shimu, Shishir Kumar Sarkar and Obaidur Rahman Milon.
Three panels contested the election, including two factions of the Nationalist Lawyers' Unity Council and the All-Party Lawyers' Unity Council. The panel led by Khandaker Maksudur Rahman Masud and Mahbubul Alam Kazi Alam secured six posts, including president, vice-president, treasurer, joint secretary (development), joint secretary (library) and two member positions, while the panel led by Alhaj Mirza Azizur Rahman and Malay Kumar Das Roy also won six posts including secretary, one vice-president, joint secretary (culture), auditor and member positions.
