Jhalakathi, Feb 15 (V7N) - A youth was allegedly hacked to death by his father in Kathalia upazila of Jhalakathi early Saturday, police said.

The deceased was identified as Mehedi Hasan Shuvo Khan, 25, a resident of Chonauta village under Amua Union of the upazila.

According to local sources and ward member Md Kabir Hossain, Shuvo, who was reportedly addicted to drugs, frequently demanded money from his father. On Saturday evening, he allegedly demanded Tk 3 lakh to buy a motorcycle, leading to a heated altercation with his father Md Barek Khan and other family members.

Sources said Shuvo later brought a sharp knife from a nearby market and threatened to kill his father before going to sleep on the west side of the house at night.

In the early hours around 4:00 am, Barek Khan allegedly hacked his son to death while he was asleep following the family dispute.

On information, police rushed to the scene, recovered the body and arrested the accused father from the spot.

Officer-in-Charge of Kathalia Police Station Md Abu Naser Raihan said the accused has been taken into custody and the body was sent to Jhalakathi Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsy. Legal proceedings in the case are underway.
