Mongla, Jan 12 (V7N) — A milad and doa mahfil was held in Mongla on Sunday seeking eternal peace for the late Begum Khaleda Zia, Chairperson of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), former Prime Minister, and a prominent national leader.
The prayer program was organized by Mongla Municipality BNP at around 11:30 am at the premises of Chalna Port Fazil Madrasa in the municipal town. The event was chaired by Mongla Municipality BNP President and former Mayor Md. Julfikar Ali, who also oversaw the overall arrangements.
BNP-nominated parliamentary candidate for Bagerhat-03 constituency (Mongla–Rampal) and Joint Convener of Bagerhat District BNP, Lion Dr. Sheikh Faridul Islam, attended the program as the chief guest. Among others present were Mongla Municipality BNP General Secretary Mahbubur Rahman Manik, Upazila BNP President A. Mannan Hawladar, General Secretary Abu Hossain Panni, and senior BNP leaders including Abdul Halim Khokon, Khorshed Alam, Nasir Talukdar, Golam Nur Jony, Kazi Faruk, Iman Hossain Ripon, Bablu Bhuiyan, Altaf Hossain, Abdus Salam Bepari, along with Mahila Dal leaders Kamala Begum, Ayesha Begum, Beby Rahman, and many grassroots activists.
In his address, chief guest Dr. Sheikh Faridul Islam said that although many leaders had sought party nomination from the constituency, the party had made its decision after due consideration. He urged all party leaders and activists to set aside differences, unite under the party decision, and work together in favor of the BNP’s electoral symbol. He said unity would ensure victory and further strengthen the leadership of BNP’s Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman.
In his speech, President Md. Julfikar Ali reaffirmed that the local BNP would work wholeheartedly to secure victory for the party-nominated candidate. He also warned against illegal occupation of shrimp enclosures in the area, stating that no enclosure would be allowed to be seized without proper legal documentation and that extortion would not be tolerated. He added that a large number of minority communities reside in the area and assured that BNP would continue to stand by them and ensure their safety in the future, as it has done in the past.
After the milad, special prayers were offered for the salvation of the souls of Begum Khaleda Zia, martyred President Ziaur Rahman, and Arafat Rahman Koko. Prayers were also offered for the long life and good health of BNP Chairperson Tarique Rahman. Following the program, improved-quality meals were distributed among nearly four thousand participants.
